The 2022 Lifetime movie, Buried in Barstow, ended on a massive cliffhanger, suggesting there will be a sequel — but will Buried in Barstow 2 happen? Written by Thompson Evans and co-directed by Howard Deutch and Hiro Koda, Buried in Barstow follows Hazel King (Angie Harmon), an ex-assassin who runs away to Barstow, California as she wants to leave her criminal life once and for all. Years later, Hazel becomes the owner of a small diner, all while raising her daughter Joy (Lauren Richards) as a single mother. Unfortunately, her criminal past catches up to her when Von (Bruce McGill), Hazel's father and former boss, tracks her down.

Von forces Hazel to take on one last job, and to ensure that she goes through with the assassination, he sends one of his henchmen Elliot (Kristoffer Polaha) to watch over her. Eventually, Hazel and Elliot get involved in a romantic relationship, which only complicates Hazel's situation even more. By the end of the movie, a mysterious assassin shoots Hazel. The attacker kidnaps Hazel's friend and colleague, Javier (George Paez) while she is left for dead. How this cliffhanger gets resolved ultimately depends on what happens in the Buried in Barstow sequel.

Lifetime has not only confirmed that will there be a sequel to Buried in Barstow, but that the film will also be the first entry in a series of movies. Angie Harmon, who is also an executive producer on Buried in Barstow, has stated, "I'd like there to be between six and eight of them, and I hope we can get there." (via Smashing Interviews). While it is unclear exactly how many Buried in Barstow movies there will be, Buried in Barstow 2 is definitely happening

Also in her 2022 discussion with Smashing Interviews, Harmon shared that filming for Buried in Barstow 2 was set to begin "in the beginning of June". This was the last update on the Buried in Barstow sequel, so all that can be gleaned from Harmon's statement is that it is somewhere in the "in development" stage.

While Lifetime has not confirmed Buried in Barstow 2's cast, it is guaranteed that Angie Harmon will return as Hazel King in the sequel considering that she is the main character in this series. Buried in Barstow also ended with Javier's kidnapping so it would be a surprise not to see George Paez return. Additionally, Hazel had unfinished business with several main characters from the first film, so while it has not been confirmed, Lauren Richards as Joy King, Kristoffer Polaha as Elliot, and Bruce McGill as Von will probably be back. No new characters or actors have been mentioned.

While no major story details have been confirmed for Buried in Barstow 2, the original movie ended with a "To Be Continued" card on the screen, so the sequel will most likely pick up where Buried in Barstow left off. There are various plot lines that the sequel could explore, but what will most likely happen is that Elliot saves Hazel from bleeding to death, the two team up to rescue Javier, and discover who was behind Hazel's attack.
