Princess Leonor of Asturias has embraced her royal duties as the future Queen of Spain with her debut appearance at the annual Pascua Militar ceremony.

Dating back to 1872, the tradition was established by King Charles III as a celebration of the Franco-Spanish army’s recapture of the Menorcan town Mahon and takes place yearly on January 6th in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace in Madrid, Spain.

Her appearance at the event comes just over two months after the Princess turned 18 and swore allegiance to the Spanish Consitution before the Spanish parliament, a historic moment that set her on her path to queendom.

King Felipe VI and Queen Consort Letiziahave two daughters: their oldest isLeonor,Princess of Asturias. She’s followed by her 16-year-old sister Sofia, Infanta of Spain.

In the Spanish monarchy,Infanta holds the title of “Royal Highness” but not “Princess.” The Princess title is only given to the heir presumptive of Spain.

On August 17, 2023, the Spanish heir joined the military, following in her father’s footsteps, who also joined the military academy in 1985.

Most recently, she was spotted with a military man in a video that went viral around the world. Alongside her parents, Leonor was seengreeting some of her classmates from the Military Academy in Zaragoza at the Royal Palace.
